The Problem

We built our identities around what we do. AI just called the bluff.

What's the first thing someone asks you at a party? "What do you do?" And what's the answer? "I am." I am a lawyer. I am a designer. I am a consultant.

For hundreds of years, we've been valued — and we've valued ourselves — by how much we produce. Speed. Output. Optimization. The human, measured by the machine.

And now the machine can do what we do. So if I am what I do, and AI can do what I do — who am I?

That question is hitting every founder, every professional, every leader. And nobody has the language for it.

Two words that change everything.

In Spanish, there are two verbs for "to be." English only has one. That missing distinction is why we can't separate who we are from what we do — and why AI is triggering the deepest identity crisis of our time.

Ser

Who you fundamentally are. Your values. Your conviction. Your way of seeing the world.

No machine can touch that.

Estar

What you're doing right now. Your job title. Your deliverables. Your current role.

AI can do all of that.

The Identity Reckoning gives you the language to tell the difference.

What We're Building

A framework. A talk. A movement.

The Talk

A spoken framework — using the ser/estar distinction — that gives audiences immediate language for the crisis they're living but can't name. Coming to the TEDx stage.

The Platform

The digital home for this — essays, tools, and community for people stuck between who they were and who they're becoming.

The Practice

Workshops that help founders pull out their ser — their actual conviction — so the business runs on who they are, not just what they can deliver.

I'm not theorizing about the identity reckoning. I'm living it.

I'm María-Inés Fuenmayor. Venezuelan-Dutch-American. Based in the Netherlands. Three nationalities, none of them the whole story.

I've navigated this reckoning three times. Leaving Venezuela. Leaving 15 years of humanitarian work across 30+ countries. And now, watching AI reshape the creative career I rebuilt from scratch.

Each time, what I did changed. Who I am didn't.

I am here to make this world more equal, more fair, more out-loud for those who haven't had a voice. That's my ser.

It was my ser when I was a humanitarian worker in Sri Lanka. It's my ser now that I build AI systems for founders. The job changed. The conviction didn't.

This is not a crisis of estar.
This is an invitation to finally learn ser.

The Identity Reckoning isn't about resisting AI. It's about knowing who you are clearly enough that no tool, no disruption, no shift in what you do can shake what you are.

Coming soon.
